Introduction
Evenings of the famous Saddar bazaar in Peshawar, Pakistan have always been fascinating me since my childhood. It’s captivating and lively streets with combination of a traditional and modern outlook has its unique place in the region. The most joyful moments would be going with my mother to buy new clothes and books for the new school year. One such beautiful evening, when my mother and I were walking through the bazaar, a young lady wearing a typical Pashtun dress rushed across the street with a cheerful look on her face, and hugged my mother. Even though I was a young boy at the time, I can still remember the glowing smile on the young lady’s face with tears in her eyes. She was a former student of my mom from a primary school in a village in the suburbs of Peshawar. Now she was a married woman with a child. She asked my mother if she could buy a gift for me from a nearby toy store. While giving me the gift, she whispered in my ear, “Listen Aamir, your mother is my beloved teacher – she has taught me for many years and has brought me out from darkness.”..............

"I hope my critique, concerns, and experiences of the development world as well as the perception, attitude and understanding of the community on gender justice would pave the path for a new dialogue on these issues. In this book, I propose a framework and strategy for this to happen. I hope that this study encourages development researchers, practitioners, and social activists to attempt to engage and work in solidarity with men, as we continue the struggle for justice in Pakistan and all parts of the world."
